GRAPHALLOY® Exhibiting at the 2015 ACHEMA World Forum

Graphite Metallizing Corporation, the manufacturer of self- lubricating GRAPHALLOY® bushing materials, will be an exhibitor at the ACHEMA World Forum in Frankfort, Germany. This trade show runs from June 15 – June 19 and is considered to be the leading forum for chemical engineering and the process industry.

Graphite Metallizing will be located in Hall 8.0, Stand H84. Representatives will be discussing two exciting new business initiatives. The first is the creation of a new headquarter office in the U.K. to support design applications in the European Union. The second initiative is the introduction of an expanded line of self-lubricating bearings for petrochemical and power pumps along with a full line of bearings for harsh environments.

GRAPHALLOY pump bearings have been granted Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) approval. These bearings are used in municipal water system pumps and can operate for more than 10 years.

GRAPHALLOY Bearings Cure Breakage Problems at Texas Oil Refinery

World Pumps
March 2015

When a vertical turbine pump broke twice inside three years at a major US oil refinery, engineers knew there must be a major problem. The 500,000 barrel a day Baytown refinery in Texas operates a maintenance program aimed at running 10 years between major repairs. That clearly was not being achieved with one particular vertical pump which broke in July 2010 and again in exactly the same place in May 2013.

A thorough inspection and analysis revealed the underlying issue was not with the shaft itself but with the use of the wrong type of bearing materials. The unit in question was a 4-Stage 14 GH Byron Jackson vertical turbine pump. When it came into the ITT PRO Services repair workshop, it was completely disassembled and inspected before repair.

GRAPHALLOY® Finds Its Place In Renewable Energy

For years, Graphite Metallizing has been supplying products to companies involved in the production of clean, renewable energy. The advantages of alternate power sources are well-documented. However, because of the extreme nature of the environments required to generate power, it often becomes impossible to use traditional bearings.

Tidal power provides an inexhaustible source of renewable energy. A company in New England was seeking low maintenance bearings for a turbine shaft suspended forty feet below the ocean surface. As the tides move in and out, the turbines spin and generate power. GRAPHALLOY bearings proved ideal for this application because they operate successfully in submerged conditions and tolerate abrasive environments like salt water.

GRAPHALLOY bearings are helping to solve the world's energy needs.

Self-Lubricating Metric Cam Followers for Extreme Environments

Graphite Metallizing Corporation announces GRAPHALLOY® self-lubricating metric dimension cam followers. These metric cam followers are available in a variety of sizes suitable for a wide range of applications.

GRAPHALLOY metric cam followers do not contain oil or grease to harden, burn up, contaminate or wash away. These metric cam followers are now being offered in addition to stock cam followers which are made to industry standard dimensions. They are designed to handle moderate loads and speeds of up to 100 RPM. They provide reliable performance in temperatures up to 750°F (400°C).

Typical applications include bakery and industrial ovens, steel mill processing lines, glass plants, conveyors, kilns and stokers. GRAPHALLOY cam followers also perform in low temperature environments of -100° F (-75°C ) and in wet or submerged applications. Click here to read more about GRAPHALLOY metric cam followers.

How is a GRAPHALLOY® bushing different from a graphite bushing or graphite bearing?

Graphite bearings and graphite bushings do not have the same properties as GRAPHALLOY.

GRAPHALLOY, a graphite/metal alloy, is formed from molten metal, graphite and carbon; it is a uniform, solid, self-lubricating, bushing and bearing material. From this we manufacture a unique, self-lubricating bearing solution, offering superior performance in hundreds of applications. GRAPHALLOY is ideally suited for submerged and high temperature bearings and bushings - applications where oil, grease, plain carbon bearings and plastic bearings fail.

Available in over 100 grades, GRAPHALLOY bearings may be the solution to your toughest carbon bearing, carbon bushing, thrust washer, cam follower, or pillow block bearing design problem. GRAPHALLOY bearings have been installed for up to 20 years without maintenance. We have many standard designs but most of our products are custom designed to the unique requirements of a specific application.

High Temperature Bearings for Ovens, Conveyors, Furnaces and Dryers

GRAPHALLOY® High Temperature Bearings are ideally suited to applications where temperatures are too high to permit the use of oil or other lubricants. These bearings will not soften at extreme temperatures or extrude under load. Many grades are suitable for temperatures to 750°F (400°C) in air. In addition, special grades provide service up to 1000°F (535°C) and higher in non-oxidizing atmospheres.

GRAPHALLOY - a graphite/metal alloy – bearings can be used in bakery and industrial ovens, glass plants, conveyors, dryers, kilns, kiln cars, stokers, soot blowers, oil guns, gypsum board and veneer dryers.

The GRAPHALLOY bearing product line for extreme and high temperatures includes:
